I disagree. Lorena Bobbit is a heroine and it was perfectly reasonable for her to cut off that demon’s 🍆. Grape is also mutilation and a deep violation of human dignity, so idk Mike’s point??? Sad, he’s usually on the side of women in topics like these. Guess all men will side with their class when push cones to shove.

Loved the early Bobby Hill reference.

I really enjoyed this episode. You asked for our AOL screen names. Do you even see these comments??

The Atlanta child killer was obviously framed with dodgy evidence and bad luck

Fascinating. I have zero interest in religion so never followed this story (am in UK too, so not big news here) and basically thought it was just a typical hypocrisy tale.

What Michael says about a relatively small group of newspaper /media editors being able to gatekeep opinions and what we the people get to hear about news is exactly right. It’s why, for all its many faults, I love social media. Some of what we hear now is undoubtedly untrue, maybe even dangerous but we’re no longer being fed only what those who think of themselves as our betters want us to know & you can navigate the dross if you’re careful

You made this podcast in 2019, so Jan 6th obviously didn’t mean anything to you both apart from the event you’re discussing. Listening in 2023, it has a whole extra dimension!

Absolutely fascinating. I knew some of the stuff around Feynman’s views but the Diane Vaughan part is new and at the same time utterly obvious if one has spent any time in large organisations.

10 minutes in, nothing has really happened, and the depressed drawl.of the main host is pretty off-putting.

Well, I enjoyed this episode immensely and have already listened to it twice. There is a lot of information to unpack here, and I’m going to have to listen to it at least a couple more times to absorb it all. Insightful conversation, guys!

Renee Richard’s herself said she would not have tried competing in professional tennis had she been in her 20s when she transitioned because ”it would not have been fair to the other players, I would have mopped up the court”

I am confused where you are telling about James read being banished, then catching up with the Donner party who have gone ahead. They are all the Donner party I thought?

Yeah I’m going to look at a pic of Kato now and he looks just like what I remembered, and no one else does. I also have a memory of the dancing it’s

I’m not sure, but I think that the going through the world thinking you are under assault from the world comes first, then the wanting a person to be with you in that. That’s what makes you susceptible to certain kinds of people

IDK if it’s true but I think I remember from a KC biopic that her mother started off the ”Karen needs to lose weight” idea. I can certainly imagine a mother passing on to a daughter the toxic ”hips run in our family” idea. A friend of mine is convinced she has huge thighs & hips because of a snide remark her (ghastly) father used to make. 😕

The guy who thought Karen was singing directly to him is basically a character out of Criminal Minds, the TV show about serial killers & the BAU that catches them! Poor Karen.

Drummers who sing: Phil Collins (Genesis) for a start, and the Eagles drummer, Don Henley.

Much is said about how shame motivates people to be better but IMHO it is conversely also able to desensitize people. Social controls purport to tell people what is appropriate and inappropriate, but if random and vicious it becomes clear especially to smart kids, that the promised payoff to ”being good” is a lie. Combine that betrayal with other factors and yeah, psychopathic behavior or self harm. This was a great discussion. Thanks

A guy from Huffington Post criticizing Fox News. That is just rich. I’m listening to this episode a year and a half after it was posted. I’m just absolutely laughing at your critiques of masking and open southern borders. Unfollowed.

I am a conservative in most areas of my life; however, I am 100% pro-choice. Always have been, always will be. No one should ever be forced to carry a pregnancy to term that does not want to. This was a great episode.

I read ”Alive” when I was in middle school. Decades later, that story has stuck with me. So glad to hear the retelling, and learn where the boys are today. Great job!!!

I’d argue a bit that maybe this is not that different from people who stay in abusive relationships because they are dependent in any way on their abuser?
