Listening to Archives..... my son at 3 had a friend he would talk to and play with, he told me his name was ”Gimmick”. I listen to him talk to gimmick for several minutes before letting him know I was there, the conversation was quite involved. He talked about him going to school and what he was going to do at school, not vague but really detailed, my wife was concerned about this ... Jesse, my son, told gimmicks he could stay in the closet and wouldn’t tell his dad he was in there!?

A fresh hide is what is known as a ”rawhide.” It has not been tanned, is not flexible and supple yet because it hasn’t been treated. Thus, as it dries, it shrinks substantially. While they are beating the person, he is also being crushed or suffocated by the drying hide. He’s going to say something, anything, to survive. The cat will jump into the water because it’s being burned. In addition, some cats, including some domestic house pets, do like water. It was interesting - and gruesome. Ugh

I grew up in the late 60s, early 70s, too, and watched all the same movies and loved Marvel comics.
It was ”Popeye” who built the metal house because of termites destroying his house, it’s a very funny cartoon.
