Err...The Kid imagining himself hanging is pretty clear? Throughout the movie, he’s repeating all his dad’s mistakes (supposedly failing as a musician, slapping Apollonia etc), and he’s picturing him attempting suicide like his dad, and that’s his impetus to break the cycle and listen to Wendy & Lisa’s tape.
