Having long struggled with Alignment, among many I am sure, especially noting in my humble experience ransoms of prisoners like in the wars of 13th to 15 century don't seem to happen. Sensibly a LG fighter capturing a CE character would not ransom for nearly any price because they are going to be a problem in the future. But, I think many of the differing alignment is there, especially for monsters, to keep abuses of Polymorph down.
