A very enjoyable episode Phil. I am also interested in the RTL-SDR topic and I also want to get Unitrunker up and running again at my house. I had been running it, or actually it was Trunker at the time, for many years on the Fort Worth system before it changed and they went digital and all of my years of work on my Trunker file went out the window. I've had Unitrunker temporarily working on Fort Worth Zoo digital system but then Fort Worth Police went and Cryptid and a metrowide Fort Worth Regional Radio System the chain the new thing. Thankfully there are still lots of unencrypted users on it. I'm also interested in using the RTL-SDR for monitoring and capturing things like the NOAA NWS GOES 8 weather satellite imagery. I like how the price can be really low compared to other forms of monitoring and buying radios goes. But I have a lot to learn about this and I'm looking forward to hearing the 2019 podcast on that topic. Merry Christmas and keep up the good work! Brian (COMMSCAN)

Interesting and well said description on simulcast systems. One thing I have found helpful in the Fort Worth area, and on there simulcast TRS, is to lock out the sites you are not receiving well or as well. I've also noticed that using a lesser antenna can help with certain situations and reception. I'm talking about the rubber ducky antennas. When I hook into the antennas on my mast I just about find it useless to try and listen to the agencies closer to me. I don't believe Fort Worth is actually using their system the way it was originally intended. Site 1 and site 2 are the most useful sites for my monitoring. But it really bums me out to have to switch to a rubber ducky antenna, and like a mention not even a good one, to get the closest site to me where it sounds better. I hope this new SDS 100 does fix the scanner reception issue. I'm interested in buying one of the unification radios / pagers but I understand they don't work very well in the sense like a scanner. They do a great job of reception but they still don't do Phase 2 systems either do they? Out where I live it all depends on where you are as to how well you will receive what you want to listen to. I'm sure it's that way everywhere really. I'm sorry I cannot go back and proofread this on podbean. I am legally blind and have to use Google Voice to Text. And trying to do this on my phone, podbean will not let me scroll back up or down to proofread.
