Great Podcast. However you miss one factor. The current story of Afg does not start with the invasion of Afghanistan in Dec 2001 but with the Communist Coup in March 1978. The US entered as the funder of the Mujahideen resistance and according to Cohl about $ 60 billion weaponry was introduced into the region. After victory in 1989, no effort was made to de-weaponise the region. With the result that a regional war began, the US intervention was a Shakespearian punishment for intervention. We have to live with the poor judgment of Washington every day; what Pakistan has done well is opt for those options that allows her to survive.
