Just heard this. To me Star Wars is Luke Skywalker. I don't mind the new characters but don't feel a strong bond with any of them. Finn is probably the best of the new three. The Last Jedi made me feel empty when I first watched it. Luke was disappointing throughout the movie but I was willing to let all my criticisms go when Luke came to Crait and had that epic scene. It would have been nice for him to kick some butt but I was ready to let that go as well. I was happy again after Crait until Luke passed at the end for no apparent reason. I can't be as invested in star wars if Luke is gone. Yes, he can come back as a force ghost and guide Rey. However, it's just not the same. Luke never achieved his full potential by the end of the OT and I feel that we were really unfairly treated not to get to see Luke at his best on screen. I think if we treat Luke as 'Jake Skywalker' then it is all ok. Luke hasn't been in the new trilogy.
