On the narrow path…. It can make the travel seem easier mentally. When I run on narrow bush tracks it feels like I’m going faster and further than when on a wider path. Attention remains just right on what is immediately ahead. No wider distractions. It might allay anxiety for Frodo and Sam to not have lots of range of vision at this stage. The journey is getting more and more focused and the narrow path might serve Tolkien metaphysically also.

This podcast is amazing and has re-ignited and expanded my interest in the Tolkien novels.

The best Tolkien podcast out there!!! The amount of research and time that is spent on the material really shows the love and respect they have for this world. I always come away with a greater understanding of and appreciation for Tolkien’s work. The humor and pop/nerd references are hilarious and greatly appreciated as they help to enliven the episodes and makes them entertaining. It is great to hear them have fun and I always appreciate it when people do not take themselves to seriously.

I tried to ignore it and focus, but as a result of one of your previous digressions, whenever fear and terror are mentioned together, I think of the Spanish Inquisition. And! Our chief weapons are...

Just some of my own speculations.

I wonder if Bob just goes home at night because he’s not an adult. So he works during the day and goes home to his parents at night. I know Pippin’s a ”minor” and he’s going on this adventure with them, but I think that the son of a well to do family like the Tooks would have more freedom that way than a son of a working class Hobbit who probably helps provide for his family by working at the inn during the day.

Think I agree with the theory that Tom is Arda’s fea or a fea. And maybe his self awareness and consciousness is a part of Yavana’s plan to protect the flora. Rather like the Ents maybe? I’m remembering her ”complaining” to Iluvatar about the dwarves.

Maybe the language Tom is speaking is whatever the elves spoke when they first woke before they met Orome or went to Valenor. Wouldn’t that original language be older than Quenya?

Just stumbled on this on YouTube. https://youtu.be/rmNyqGEJvVs Its a YouTube channel called Cinema Therapy. Two guys, one if whom is a shrink talking movies. In this one they look at Smeagol/Gollum and what they now call Disociative Personality Disorder. Worth checking out. Love the Podcast. Have a good break, see you soon in Minas Tirith.

I adore Tom Shippey. How wonderfully witty and snarky he is. This was a fun episode.

Boxing Day is not celebrated in Ireland!!! We celebrate St. Stephen's Day. It is only a thing in NORTHERN Ireland, and then only among those loyal to Queen of England which is about half of that population. I know it was a thow away comment but we are NOT part of the UK here in the Republic of Ireland and it gets a bit wearing when people just lump us all in together. We were oppressed by the British for 800 years so the details matter as we celebrate 100 years of the Irish Free State this year
