Such a sad, scary story! Such an amazing job of reporting this.

Excellent podcast! This one really hit close to home for me unfortunately being I’ve dealt with the DCFS in the state of Louisiana and had a very different situation in regards to why the state was brought into my life but had some similar parallels to this story where the state didn’t want to reunite the children with their bilogocal parents although they claimed that was their ultimate goal. It’s a shame how much these workers are hypocrites in every sense of the word in my experience

If the precedent was set why didn't the other family get the 100 +K for their humiliating experience? Does the system go after Blacks who demand equal compensation. No follow up? Their life savings was depleted!!!!

What.no way.his is the worst of the worst. All the true crime I listen to. This is the story that upset me the most. Even walking out of the room.I just couldn’t stand to hear what was going on .how the hell in this day and age can this happen . outrageous. Those poor kids. 😥. The poor parents. 😭. How dare those state servants get away with that. They should be in court.

The fact that those CPS workers are still employed is absolutely ridiculous. Horrible!

I very much want to see the Dr go to Jail! She lied, out right and deliberately, she is guilty of child endangerment and she can't say she read x-rays wrong bc if she did she shouldn't be allowed anywhere a patient ever again!

The tragedy is not that mistakes were made, but that the CPS workers refused to admit to and fix those mistakes. Conscientious people do not double down at the expense of another's wellbeing.

ALL excuses, "its a hard job, We do the best we can but sometimes things fall through the cracks, so many kids and so little funding, mistakes happen but we have to do what we can until we know for sure, this is for the kids ." the truth is, mistakes ARE made, but the issue comes when professionals choose to worry more about covering their own butts and hiding their own mistakes at the expense of children. We all know the problems but we do not insist on ACCOUNTABILITY For all who make those!

This story is so well told. As a casualty litigation adjuster I work with lawyers on both sides judges defendants and plaintiffs, etc. The parents stories and the narration had me crying, screaming injustice, incompetence yet understanding caseload. Yet if I make an error the life of a child doesn't hang in the balance. My heart breaks for the parents. I don't envy social services. It makes me want to foster kids who's parents are working to get them back. I'm furious with the whole Texas system
