I found this podcast cuz I was searching for Andrew Clavin and I love his stuff, who the hell are these bleeding-heart douchebags whining about homosexuality and white privilege?

So practical advice is incapable of being told in the form of a parable?

@LucentKnight : You're wrong, proverbs is not just a book of parables. Look up the definition of the word proverbs. A parable is a story, proverbs is practical advice.

Great podcast! Aside from growing and changing spiritually, I continue to appreciate the music, authors, and others that I've been exposed to on BC. Keep on! 👌👌👌

I was a little torn about these guys. I appreciated their seeming willingness to ask questions that many won't. But I think it unfortunately comes from a negative heart. My honest opinion about these guys is that they don't actually care about Christ and their Christianity as much as they do about themselves. It seems like every week they think of new excuses to "kind of, sort of" be a Christian, but then complain and make their own path, rather than follow God. They are intellectually lazy, shooting from the hip, rather than putting their hearts into finding the truth. They think their collective opinions are akin to an intelligent conversation. But they rarely are aware of the Bible or a comprehensive biblical worldview, and don't put the hard work into to actually researching things and presenting facts. The first and second commandments are too love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. But rather than seeing either of those in any real measure, you see them loving themselves, talking about themselves, and what they want rather than what God wants. And rather than helping people, they are creating a culture against Christ. They love compromise, and if you love compromise, follow and listen to these guys. I don't think they respect the Bible, and not sure if they take the Bible under advisory, much less a matter of reverent urgency. After listening to ...like 50 of these (which is a lot!), I'm drawing some conclusions, and moving on. I'll continue to be an open minded individual, and ask big questions. But I care about Christ too much to walk down the compromised Christian path. I struggle plenty, have gone through many hardships that most yuppies don't come close to, and definitely don't have it all figured out, but I'm making a choice on who I want to be.

I'm 43, my mom escaped my step-dad when I was around 5. The church told her that she needed to go back and pray for him and be submissive. He sexually abused me from 2-17 yrs of age and raped and abused her. He was charming and people adored him. I blame him for the trauma but I blame the church for not being a place I would ever seek help or security.

Why couldn't she just ask them to keep the noise down a little? Why was it necessary to feign contact of authorities?

This topic is incredibly sensitive and difficult and multifaceted. No one has the answer, but ultimately we can't be insensitive to peoples suffering. I was suicidal and the ONLY reason I didn't was the small voice saying this will just make it worse for everyone you love and thats selfish. My husband was talked down from putting a bullet in his head in Afghanistan by a fellow soldier who made sure he knew he mattered and that his situation wasn't worth ending his life over, that good things where coming. My husband has also talked others out of killing themselves. He also lost a few very close soldiers to suicide who didn't get the support and help they needed. Suicide sadly has touched my life in many ways and I pray for the hearts and minds of all who suffer from those thoughts or have lost people.

I was raised in a Puerto Rican household where my guardian was a spiritist. I regularly saw figures in my doorway, people would say they saw dark figures hovering over me. He had an altar, crystal ball and spoke in tongues as he channeled the spirits he was contacting. He was a practitioner of "white" magic and was respected in the community.

which broadcast is the one with the porn guy?

7 years ago reply 0

What do you do with statistics that say 8 of 10 marriages experiencing significant marital problems who stay together are happier 5 years later? We can all point to marriages that are miserable, but that's not a really good argument for divorce, particularly in light of the use of marriage as an metaphor for the relationship between Christ and the church.
