”You may not agree with Ryan Burge’s opinions”. Damian gives us a masterclass in restraint.

Enjoy hearing a religious perspective on issues & defence of Christianity.

I didn’t realise that the Spectator is an arm of the Roman Catholic Church. The Spectator’s normal broad coverage of issues is abandoned by Holy Smoke. I can unsubscribe from this podcast. Maybe from the magazine as well?

Douglas Murray's Madness of Crowds helps.

I wonder if you haven't made this podcast too soon without really reading the book carefully. Granted, readers will have some reservations about the contents but there are also some very interesting and disturbing subplots. The quote by Hannah Arendt on page 53 is one. The discussion of how a life of lies and hypocrisy lead into the creation of a totalitarian environment is very pertinent to the problems faced by the Church in general and the clergy in particular. Also the discussion of migrant sex workers in Italy and the preference of priests and bishops to prefer them shows the exploitation practiced by those who speak of mercy. And the insight into the incredible loneliness and obvious psycho-social fragility of gay clergy speaks volumes about the unhealthy state of the hierarchy and the institution. Your quick condemnation shows a lack of willingness to look beyond the sex and mockery of some individuals to a very deep-seated problem which just may bring the whole structure down.

An excellent and thoroughly intellectually and morally engaging podcast. My only complaint is that there are too few episodes.
