I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. In 1991, I had just finished my first year of college at Alabama and this story was not only followed very closely in the paper but was also the only topic of conversation. It was frightening because we still considered the Tuscaloosa area “safe” and “small hometown” even tho we had the UA. I don’t know if you realize this, because I don’t know where you’re located, how long you’ve been in Alabama, etc (the Carrie Lawson podcast was my first of y’alls. About to binge 😂) but Jasper is known for having, get this, “retired mobsters”. Smith Lake is rumored to be a big dumping area as well as all the caves. It’s generally speculated that Carrie is lost in a cave somewhere. This case had everyone on edge because it came just a few years after the murder of Frances Craven who happened to be my priest while I was in catholic school at Holy Spirit Catholic School in 1989. His body was found burned and if I’m correct he was traveling somewhere to say mass in another town. Needless to say, we were all a little freaked. Thanks for doing Carrie Lawson. Funny, the town always thought the husband had something to do with it. Guess not.
