There was blood law pertaining to inter-clan crimes but that doesn't apply to this situation. The names, actions, and personalities sound like some Hollywood stuff written by white folks casting more white folks woth red-face.
Careful where you get your info/stories. Traditional conservative Cherokee communities would see a woman hunting would be seen as a curiosity like someone that refuses to stop working when it is not necessary (and this isn't even including Asegi third gender or trans gender dynamics). Punishments in-tribe, let alone in-village were reserved to those that threatened the livlihoods of the village, ie eating the stores of corn when it is not deamed appropriate.
A giant squid or octopus which would be in its death throws at the surface and so thrashing around. This would be seen as agression by any sailors unlucky enough to be close by.
