Yep! I prefer to garden, raise chickens, have a bonfire in summer, cut wood, snowshoe in winter then go anywhere where there are lots of people! Spending time right now planning my new chicken coop and looking forward to building it in the next few weeks.

Thanks! That was helpful to know what to expect when using Einkorn .

One little note... you use the term β€œYou guys” or β€œGuys”. A lot. Ummm.... we are not all β€œGuys” the slang term is a hot bed with certain communities, not mine, I am an actual woman. That being said I’m also not a β€œGuy”. Maybe we could weave in another all inclusive term.

Jill, love your show. I’m a grateful grandmother now and β€œWow!” My children thought I was nuts 30 years ago , but now they have adopted the practices/chores they did on the farm. Keep it up with the younger and new Mom group. It’s invaluable.

Love your stuff Jill. One critique on this upload though. I’m not sure if it’s from porting it over from YouTube or what, but the audio for this episode was pretty quiet and distant sounding. Other than that great stuff. Keep up the good work!

Blaze kings are the prized brand up here in Alaska. Most folks I know have a Blaze King for wood, or a Toyo brand if they run propane/gas

Loving this episode, I'm very interested in a family cow or goat... is there a favorite resource you might recommend for learning more about making dairy products?

Next time instead of taking a grinder to it, pop in in the oven and run the self cleaning cycle. All the layers of build up will be ashes, you can wipe out and start fresh! πŸ˜„

Store bought sauerkraut tastes watery to me. Like, it's just cabbage and water with maybe a hint of salt.im excited to try making my own!

We have wild raspberries, strawberries (though they are tiny), salmon berries (which are related to raspberries, (but are more orange) and to-die-for blueberries here near the artic circle. Our area gets super cold, but we don't have the high winds and major temp functions in the summer like you do there. I thought about offering some of our raspberry cuttings, but they don't ripen until around September, so they may not do well with your hard early frosts. I'm glad to hear you have found good fruit solutions for your area though! I can't wait for the recipes!

My family loves pickled eggs! Sometimes we make our own brine, sometimes we reuse the brine from our other pickles or pickled beets. So good!

From what I've heard, the pulse of the milking machine can be comforting to the cows because the pulse is the same rate as their heart beat.

On the note of organic labels; not everything with that label even is organic. I worked at a grocery store that would take a box of lettuce for example, and slap organic labels on 2/3 and a non organic label on the rest. But they all came out of the same package! But they did this because the organic label made people spend more on the sketchy lettuce

I had extra dollars to splurge on a cut of grass fed beef from my supermarket (which also happened to have had a price reduction) and oh my goodness. The only way I can describe the flavor is 'clean.' That's not to say the regular run of the mill beef tastes wierd, but that cut of grass fed beef was the cleanest tasting meat I have ever had. It was life changing. I don't actually eat beef often, I tend to prefer pork, (both in price and flavor (it's often cheaper than chicken per pound in my area)) but now I try to choose grass fed whenever I can
