An interesting episode. However, close to the end, a sad lapse. Scotland was dismissed in a passing phrase before the podcast settled down to the much more interesting details of individual English towns. This speaks to the sea in which we swim and is exactly the sort of incident which reinforces the Scottish view of the Union. No overt prejudice, just unthinking dismissive attitudes. Liz O’Malley

As I recall, the change was that depth charges were not dropped from 25 feet, they were set to go off at a depth of 25 feet, they were dropped from much higher.

I’m not sure we need to ”dismantle patriarchy” society is becoming euqal faster than we could imagine and it’s arguable that we don’t live in patriarchy at all anymore in the west

The national emissions figures are misleading. They should be ajudged per capita. Since it will be we who agree to change our individual lifestyle. A different version to Cromwell being presented as a leader who reacted to the actions of one of worst English kings and who then reluctantly took power due to the inability of parliamentarians to create stability. Very much a pro monarchy version of events.
Very poor podcast in my opinion. Anyone from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is a very biased source; they have an agenda for people to come to Stratford and spend money there. It does not say his name on the plays - the Stratford man was named William Shakspere. What’s more, William Shakespeare is a pseudonym (common at the time) which references the Greek Goddess Athena. The Stratford man left NO paper trial. May I suggest inviting Roger Strittmatetter (full academic) on to balance this out?

Great episode and wanted to buy the book but just too expensive- as much as I wanted to read it, £26 is way too much.
Can’t believe how wokeness has now managed to find its way to history. Downplaying, or even atempting to erradicate, the significance of the ANGLO SAXONS. This is why I can’t listen to History Now anymore.
Basing an entire book & interview on negations only.....hmmmm....
