This whole podcast is massively underrated, I don’t know how it doesn’t have millions of listens. The production quality is professional and structured.

Excellent, excellent narrative retelling of Matilda. This podcast is criminally underrated, and its quality should mark it as one of the top historical podcasts.

Battle of Legnano May 29th 1176.

The battle of Legano was fought in 1176 not 1173.

Probably currently the best, most accessible podcast about the history of Italy. The complementary content on the YouTube channel is also excellent. I’m personally extremely grateful for this resource, which the host clearly puts a lot of time, energy, and resources into. This is one of those podcasts that makes me thankful for the internet -- there’s simply a glut of well-constructed, well-thought-out educational material here. I cannot express anything other than my thanks.

Very interesting podcast - thank you - and I look forward to F100: 02 and to more 20th c topics. It would be useful to have more background text for each podcast - including names of guests - and indeed about the whole History of Italy project and its author, Mike Corradi. So that I can find it on Spotify, who recorded the excellent electric guitar version of Bella Ciao at the beginning of this episode?

Also try skipping as in jumping anyway, it always helps you feel better

@Wordimages : Too sensitive for this. Right now. I skip as in move on. Yet I skip when no one is looking if glee moves me. I will try it again later when the winds change. So to speak. Not an comment at your efforts. Story telling is your gift Mr.C.

Yes, if you’re not in a strong mindset that’s a good idea. It was a time when we saw how dark the dark side of humanity can get, al through I don’t kid myself that horrible stuff doesn’t still happen every day.

@a history of italy : For skipping as in “passing on” or as in “jumping happily in a childlike manner” either way I wouldn’t really recommend it for this one.

Lovely episode...what a great response too. Nice to learn of our host's wide breadth of experiences. In Italy they called me La Americana when visiting in early '92. You could not correct them...I hailed from Canada. Funny enough my mother would say she was 'una Cristiana" to mean human being. Couldn't correct that either.

Sorry. Wonder if due to Franks and Normans may be why Rende near Cosenza says Mamma Grande not Nona. I often make connections from disparate info. My bad ...ADD maybe. I know that a Dr Gabor Mate speaks of epigenetics and so I can only imagine how a "culture " develops certain traits due to all these intrigues and traumas to say the least. Nasty bit about Saransans explains so much like over protective parents down south. I am Canadian Italo and new to history. You make it fun.

@a history of italy : Thank you! Not sure I’ve understood the story here though.
