Oh dear. This story got a bit weird and difficult to listen to in the end. In particular, the garden conversation! For the most part, it was very interesting. Thank you.

It’s an extraordinary story. I really enjoyed listening, but I was left feeling angry that Kirat didn’t get the justice she deserves. One point that I picked up on during the podcast was the mention of money. I’m sure there was mention that Kirat had given ’Bobby’ money at some point. In which case, surely that is extortion by coercion. Even if unlike other scamers, it only happened the once.. Good luck, Kirat, I certainly hope you find love and happiness. Thanks again.

What a crazy story. Thank you for delving into this. I do online dating but I am very cautious. If I can’t meet the person in real life within a month, I drop them. That’s a huge flag for me. I don’t give out too much personal info beforehand either. Now at 40 years old, I also do background checks by using the phone number. I hope Kyrat finds healing soon.

If nothing was stolen, no harm was made, there isn’t much the police can do. The cousin is a psychopath and with that last letter she’s still manipulating this woman, and she’s playing right into it, she gives her a little something of what she really wants (an apology) but not much and the cousin gets reeled back in, she might not be gullible, she claims, but she’s certainly easy to manipulate. Not by accident there are so many scamming operations out of India

Unbelievable story!! Really well told but frustratingly inconclusive. The ’private family matter’ is obviously at the heart of it and because of the family pressures in a traditional community, we’ll never know what it was. The fact remains that if this kind of catphishing isn’t presently a crime, it should be. The harm to Kirat over all those years is immense. It’s a cautionary tale for our times about the power and danger of social media.

But her friends and family were taken in by her too

@Nekane : Indeed rhis whole thing was beyond cruel. But, honestly didn‘t Kyrat suspect anything at all? Is she that alone, isolated that no one family member or friend could had said anything to her? . She is not a teenager, she is a grown up woman who choose to believe sweet little things from someone who she has never met in person.

I think the letter was just another way to emotionally control Kyrat in the same way she did as Bobby. The ”why” of it all could be she was in love with Kyrat in a really malajusted way. But please keep us updated, its a truly remarkable tale.
