Very interesting story of Ella Fitzgerald and revisionist history.
tb23 your evidently uninformed view point is no reason to criticize Gladwell’s work
the past. This process is detailed in Frank Evans’ wonderful 2009 book ’Virolution’ (Collins Press)
Two things you apparently don’t know. The Gingko tree was going extinct in China. An order of monks recognised this and mandated planting gingkos in all theor monasteries and so saved the species, of which only one variety of the species exists. It is a perfect name for a biotech company. Secondly, the incorporation of vaccines into our DNA has been happening naturally forever, and much of what is considered junk DNA is actually naturally providing us with resistance to diseases we faced in th
I forever lost respect for Malcolm after watching that debate with Douglas Murray and Matt Taibi. The fact that Malcolm’s only tactic was to repeatedly call Matt a racist, simply because he’d mentioned Walter Cronkite, was really disgusting
And yet I can’t stand that ”” baby voice. It’s ear piercingly annoying.
Podcast blank at about 2/3. Having this problem with several other episodes of this podcast. Help! Love content but this is frustrating.
Wow Malcolm, I really miss the days when you did a podcast of your own content instead of schilling for the podcasts of others. Even if they work for Pushkin, I would still rather hear YOUR commentary on a subject. Any chance you’ll be going back to THAT format any time soon?
Eskimo? Really? Think N - Word. Clearly not any thinking went into that use of an inappropriate and disrespectful term. Now I remember why I stopped listening to this episode halfway through.
This was a very touching story filled with love. To the commenters responding with hate, learn, grow.
I’m in a program for dogs to sniff out Parkinson’s- padsforparkinsons.org. Dogs are just plain amazing!!!
I couldn't listen to this one. The chewing was absolutely horrendous
The fairytale the grasshopper and the ants was referenced in this episode and there’s a companion to this tale by Leo Lionni called Frederick. The main character also does not participate in the work of the summer but has gifts of his own to give to the community when all the food is gone and the winter is so long. They are grateful for what he has ‘gathered’ while they were working because it nourishes their souls as well. A nice reframing of the fable.
great story, Pushkin tells the best stories
