Thank you all for the insightful commentary. (Thanks Professor Bambrick!) Also Dujie, it's really cool to see this podcast after attending your virtual reading at CWU recently. It's so hopeful and helpful to a budding poet.

White people (which I am) may react to these poems not because we don't acknowledge the danger of words or the anger behind them; but because we've already accepted that we are inherently racist and part of a system of racism and these words push us towards being more intentional and aware of our bias and trying to become accomplices/advocates instead of part of the problem.

I greatly appreciate this as a college student who just learned to love poetry. This is the second class where I've engaged with "Don't Call Us Dead," and this podcast is helpful when it comes to learning about craft, process, and composing. As a queer woman, I feel so inspired by Danez Smith. I just bought "Homie" and after hearing the podcast I will be adding "[insert] boy" to my collection. Thank you for putting together such a lovely poetry podcast.
