I love the way Joy uses the arts to explore the depths of humanity.

Are spirit and soul the same things?

Would Klara as a robotic computer ever be able to have a spiritual encounter? That is have a spirit and have human understanding at the same time? thank you!

This morning I read Psalm 93. I hope you can also as it covers waves, floods, and God’s house which is adorned with Holiness. 🌊

Oh wow! My book club is reading this to discuss next week. So perfect to benefit from your podcast. It’s been extremely helpful so far. Thank you!! When I read the entry on p. 167 “The Ketterleys are an old Dorsetshire family,” I literally gasped aloud, “Uncle Andrew!!” From The Magician’s Nephew. I have felt I was wading through water but now I know I won’t be able to stop! Your insights have helped me get lots more from this. My friend and I have encouraged others in our group to listen, too!

The section was so short, but this episode is so long. Much too long to listen to tonight, but can’t wait to listen in the morning!

This was so beautiful, and true. It's something I haven't thought about very much, but it really touched my heart. Thank you both so much.

What a wonderful book. The Christmas Carol has been a favorite of mine for many years, and it is lovely to revisit it. Thank you so much for doing these podcasts. They have brought so much joy to my life in the middle of this pandemic. Merry (late)Christmas, and a very happy New Year. In the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one!”

I think of the soldiers who stopped fighting and celebrated Christmas. It’s that mysterious and global. Thank you sharing this episode with the masses. A continued Merry Christmas 🎄 and an ever~learning to be gentle and loving New Year to you and your family.

This is such an amazing podcast episode, Joy! Really fascinated by Holly's perspective on Tolkien and the literary influences of other modernists.

This is so true! I'm always told how surprisingly well-spoken my children are for their ages, and I don't say that to boast, but to prove the importance and impact of simply speaking to and with your children! Honor their intellect by giving them the capacity for expressing themselves through language and writing!

So special to hear you both talking about a book that you shared and about the value of walking to the beat of your own drum! I wish I had met Meg when I was a teenager!

The scripture is Isaiah 42:10&12. Just a beautiful reading within the story.

Thank you for doing this! I enjoy your podcast so much and A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books. :) I love the characters so much and Meg was one of the first fictional characters that I really related with. Blessings! Josie A.

Thank you for this great podcast about Dante. I discovered Dante through CS Lewis and Charles Williams using the Dorothy L Sayers translation which came with endpapers with maps of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. You are right to describe the work as overwhelming and it leads you on to so many ideas, it is an education in itself. Charles Williams writes memorably of Francesca in his book and paints a grim picture of her. Thanks again to you and your guest.

This was really interesting. It's intriguing that alchemy has a pattern of black to white to red. It made me think of the wordless book. I'd love to know your thoughts on the color progression of alchemy vs. the Christian pattern of black to red to white.

Enjoyed hearing Joy and Joel discussing time, waiting, delayed gratification, that book I've still not read, and the song... which meant more after their discussion.

Remember this podcast for when you're a true and lovely teacher. I will too because I'm a library teacher . Thank you so much for this insightful podcast. The Clarkson family is a blessing to me.

This chapter has made me really love reading G.K.Chesterton! What a journey he has us on.

Wow! Souls and Screens was an amazing podcast! I appreciate your clarity of thought and ability to winsomely articulate such heavy life issues. I had my husband listen to the episode and we are both struck by the haunting truth of the The Hymn of the Acxiom. We watched the Truman show for the first time last night. My husband teaches at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada and we are always in discussions about such things. Just a few side notes: your mom has mentored me through her books for more years than you are old, I’ve never met a box I didn’t like (a quote from your dad), Sarah’s books on books are a fav, my family and I have stayed on a sheep farm just outside of St. Andrew, and I’m a “Girls Clubber” ;) So, if you’re ever in Vancouver, you are warmly invited to stay in our cozy guest room:)

What a great podcast! I’d love to know your favorite Celtic children’s books, so that I could do a Celtic study in my classroom for St. Patrick’s Day. Thank you for the podcast!

I look forward to this Joy, but it will be my Winter reading Challenge given that I live in Australia. Your suggestion to find a buddy is excellent.

How interesting. I never knew about these poets and I have now gone further afield from your blog notes to learn about e.e.cummings and his painting. Sublime colours. Thank you for my weekly cultivation of the garden of my soul.
