John Ford may not have been a very nice guy, but he was one of the greatest directors in American film history. Marie and Mike spend this episode discussing the life and filmography of a director who is best known for westerns and yet who made excellent films in various genres. During a career in which he turned out more than 100 movies, Ford directed such classics as "The Informer," "Stagecoach," "The Grapes of Wrath," "How Green Was My Valley," "My Darling Clementine," "The Quiet Man," "The Searchers" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." It's little wonder that Ford won the Academy Award as best director four times. Marie and Mike share their observations about John Ford, with much of their conversation devoted to such technical matters as how Ford composed individual shots. So you can expect to hear about windows and doors!
