Important to remember, US agricultural workers are only a part of the world’s agricultural workers, and the exceptionally hot weather affects all of them. The US supplies many types of food to other countries, but also receives many types of food from other countries. The well-being of the people who undertake to harvest our food is something that should be of global concern.

PrI (rhymes with eye) mordial soup -- NOT ”pree” mordial soup!

I find the notion of a ”Rat Czar” to be humorous, and at the same time, futile. NYC: We are in charge, not the rats. We are appointing a Rat Czar to come up with a solution to this problem. Rat Czar: I have come up with a two-prong solution to this problem. First, absolutely no littering. We must dispose of all of our refuse properly. Second, no throwing away any food. We must absolutely control our food waste. NYC: , you mean we actually have to do what we should be doing now?

Over the years I have heard many theories about why we see no signs of intelligent life, but I don’t recall ever hearing what to me is the most likely reason. I believe the most likely reason to be time and space. The light coming from the objects we observe today is billions of years old. If you think about what our planet was like several billion years ago, any intelligent life looking at us today is probably thinking ”huh, nothing going on over there either I wonder where everyone is.”

Regarding the collection of health data from excrement. This is a fabulous tool! In my opinion however it would be a huge mistake to make this a passive process. An individual needs to actively choose to have this data collected. And once collected, it should not be sent to the cloud but stored locally and made accessible only to one’s personal health care provider

Regarding the renaming of the Audubon society. I absolutely agree it is a mistake for the national organization to refuse renaming. I think the local chapters should be free to choose their own names and go under the umbrella of a renamed national organization. Something simple like The National Organization of Bird Ecology (formerly the Audubon society)

Social media. It would be better to call it antisocial media. It’s a reflection of how human beings really are deep down. Fear and anger rule us as a species. Fear and anger are like a communicable disease that we spread to one another.

With regard to the question ”could AI be used to correct political misinformation real time?” I think misinformation is getting corrected all the time but people still don’t believe. Facts aren’t true or false. Those are values people assign to facts so they can feel good about believing them or not. So as far as I’m concerned, my short answer would be ”no.”

I am always interested to hear the latest technology and industry developments In and around EV’s. Given the amount of time it currently takes to change one I am wondering though what will happen when they are the dominant vehicle type 🤔 and is there a way to make a battery that changes like a capacitor but discharges like a battery?

With regard to the discussion of lab grown meat vs conventional sources, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree the price at the consumer level doesn’t reflect true cost. If it did, far less would be consumed. Sadly that will never happen. A drop in consumption would mean a financial hit to providers.

I am not a professional scientist. But in my experience, all answers, weather obtained through the journey of discovery, stumbled upon by accident, or just blindingly obvious, seem always to lead to more questions. Remember, the answer to life the universe and everything is... 42!

I think it’s truly sad that, regardless of whatever political leaning, all governments feel compelled to attempt to FORCE those they govern into doing whatever THEY think should be done rather than announcing the discovery and allowing choice. It’s very telling. relationship

On gamification, agreed with everything right up until class dojo. The giving or withholding of reward to compel behavior has been going on FOREVER. And not just with students. Granted gamification makes this more efficient, but it’s certainly nothing new.

Another thought for a name for the JWST. Maybe we could call it the ”just wondering” space telescope.

1 years ago reply 0

Here’s my vote for a new name for JWST. Since it’s already almost always referred to as JWST, let’s call the long name as the ”judgement withheld space telescope.” We can take what we learn from it without saying ”this is the final word.”

No. If you don’t know that tests show 97 percent false positives, you are not credible.

Listening to the show I was amazed that no one envisioned what to me is a very obvious reason we might go extinct. Our hubris. Failing to recognize or even outright denying our peril, we continue on as we have.

I‘m listening to this episode in December of 2021. As a young boy, I followed this entire process from the launch to Neil Armstrong‘s historic first step on the lunar surface, the thing that I remember most is the feeling that this accomplishment did not belong to a single person, political philosophy, or Nation. It belonged to all of humanity.

Besides, jif is a brand of peanut butter, and also shorthand for quickly. If you‘re talking to somebody and you say you‘re going to send them something in a GIF using the soft g sound, they may just think you‘re going to send it quickly and ask how they should look for it to come. Whereas if you use the hard g sound everyone IN THE ENTIRE WORLD will understand what you‘re saying.

2 years ago reply 0

I‘m surprised you favor giving GIF the j sound. The g stands for graphics which I think would be a clue about the pronunciation. I know the creator also favors the j sound, but that just means on top of being creative he‘s also a jerk. Or girk.

Influence the data? INFLUENCE THE DATA?!! Uh, yeah, of course it will influence the data. And the data yielded will at least reflect real world conditions, whereas research that doesn‘t include the entire gender spectrum can‘t POSSIBLY yield anything BUT corrupted data. Yet seemingly it‘s all about the gender bias and not the BS experimentation methodology.

Most Americans don‘t understand!? What a load of BS! If there‘s anything Americans DON‘T understand it‘s how much our government strives to keep information from us! Their excuse is it‘s a free society and they don‘t want our enemies to find these things out. The fact is our enemies are probably better informed than the general population. What they really want to keep secret is what a bunch of clutses they are.

Listening to this episode on black holes made me ponder the possibility that the reason all the distant observable objects are moving away from us at an increasingly rapid rate is because we are all circling the event horizon of a super gigantic black hole 🤔

Flip this. A car is going to value someone else‘s life over mine. Unacceptable. If programed properly one life would not be valued higher than another. Only the least bad outcome would be selected. Trolley problem? How about a piano falls on a driverless car killing all the occupants? Unavoidable! Driving or riding in a car is risky. Driverless cars remove A LOT but not all risk. Will my car kill me or someone else? Maybe, AND maybe not. The end.

Has she actually read the peer reviews?? Yes, these help prevent spike protein from attaching to the Ace2 receptor. Ivermectin, chloroquin, hydroxychloroquin, polyphosphates, nisin (found in mayo), regenron. There are homeopathic methods that can help too. Star anise tea, pine needle teas. Whenever they say that something doesnt work..generally do the opposite. Current peer studies are seeking help; find something to prevent the above prevent them from blocking the receptor. Hmm 3rd booster?

Carl Zimmer is a moron. Skip his segment. He's clearly not a trained scientist. While listening I couldn't believe some of the asinine claims he made, so I looked him up. He is a science writer, not a scientist, and that is evident from his lack of understanding in a field he's presenting himself as an expert on. Shame on science friday for featuring his book.
