International Coalition of Sites of Conscience

Transitional justice describes the measures countries put into place to address legacies of conflict and human rights abuses. In the absence of any formal transitional justice mechanism in the US, Sites of Conscience are ideal places to facilitate and foster discussion around truth, justice, and reconciliation. To help American sites learn from the work already being done around the world, we paired up US-based Sites of Conscience with Sites of Conscience members in Colombia, The Gambia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka - all countries that have, or are currently undergoing transitional justice processes. In this series, participants will revisit these conversations, sharing what they have learned with you, our listeners. This podcast is a program of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience. This series will address racism as a risk factor for atrocity crimes on a global scale. We will be doing this within the framework of racial justice and anti-racism. Each episode will explore manifestations of racism, from the racialized capitalism of colonialism and slavery to contemporary racial injustices in policing, media, and the economy. Our expert guests will help expose how these manifestations increase the risk of atrocity crimes. This podcast is a production of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience and the Global Initiative for Justice, Truth, and Reconciliation.

”Transforming Transitional Justice” is a podcast from the Global Initiative for Justice, Truth and Reconciliation, a flagship program of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, a global network of historic sites, museums and memory initiatives that support communities to confront painful pasts in order to establish more just and peaceful societies today.

The Difference She Makes is a new podcast by the Global Initiative for Justice, Truth, and Reconciliation (GIJTR) that explores the ways in which women are uniquely affected by injustice and conflict through the lens of women activists themselves. Over the course of six episodes, we bring together over a dozen women, from as many countries, to gain perspective into the economic and emotional toll women face as a consequence of violence, war, and systemic injustice. To help us understand the countless ways women are affected, Guests come from a range of backgrounds. They include former combatants, prisoners, U. N. representatives, local leaders, mothers, teachers, survivors, and others. But they all share a commitment to using their experiences and expertise to advocate for women today.

Welcome to Why Memory Matters In Palestine and Beyond, a series of global conversations facilitated by the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience (ICSC), and designed to help Sites of Conscience and their allies build a better understanding of what has led to the situation in Palestine today, encourage critical thinking and dialogue, and inspire action towards building more peaceful societies everywhere. The first part of Why Memory Matters in Palestine and Beyond includes six recorded conversations with guest speakers from academia and the fields of human rights and cultural heritage and will be available here in full on January 13, 2025. We will also host a three-day webinar taking place January 21st, 22nd and 23rd, 2025 that brings together Sites of Conscience members and partners who have faced related injustices in Bangladesh, South Africa, Northern Ireland and elsewhere.
