We begin our descent with Catalina de la Vega—the corsair bride, the saint of slit throats, the Bloody Rose of Toledo. In this inaugural tale, Catalina recounts her life before the turning: the blade-wielding runaway, the pirate queen, and the woman who fed—and rose—as something far more ravenous. This is a story of hunger, betrayal, and the first taste of blood.
