Taste, Especially in Language

My friend LL and I discuss taste in language.  We start off with the question of why it’s hard to even discuss this, possibly because of the weight of the belief that taste is subjective.  I read a bit of Rousseau’s Emile, Part IV where he is talking about the laconic taste of the ancients vs. that of supposedly bombastic moderns.  We discuss our thoughts about clarity vs. nebulousness with language, and go into “Politically Correct” language as well.
