Help children to understand that Freeze & Fawn were very healthy for younger children, but as we grow up, we have to use the other 4 responses, like:
Flight - Fight - Faith - Acceptance.
As we teach children to trust their feelings, to embrace the concept of God, to understand how to recognize our responses, they will learn how to cope better.
As the adults we have a responsibility to teach children to be independent.
Maybe parents should have a workshop around the kitchen table, teachers and guardians to have workshops in the classroom.

For many parents, we can feel like we are losing touch with our children, when in fact our children in their despair of not being good enough, can be wary of telling others of how they feel for fear of being smothered.

Your child is not mentally ill; they just don't understand how to deal with their feelings; but teach them, show them, let them see that you have been challenged by the same feelings when you were younger also; that you learned how to cope and suggest they copy your coping skills, or that as a family or group, you all act out our those responses together, make it a fun exercise.
This is a gift you give to your children, to your charges; that will come back to you tenfold.
