Physician’s Guide to Doctoring with Bradley B. Block, MD
Health & Fitness:Medicine
In this podcast episode, Dr. Ian Storch, a gastroenterologist and practitioner of osteopathic medicine, discusses the history and philosophy of osteopathy. He explains that osteopathy originated in the late 1800s as a response to the limitations of modern medicine at the time. Founder A.T. Still developed manual therapies to treat somatic dysfunctions and emphasized the importance of treating the mind, body, and spirit.
Dr. Storch also mentions that while MDs and DOs have similar practices today, the main differences lie in philosophy, which are gradually converging.
