Dr. Gladys Mae West, American mathematician known for her contributions to the mathematical modeling of the shape of the Earth, and her work on the development of the satellite geodesy models that were eventually incorporated into the Global Positioning System (GPS), joins Sophia today to discuss her experience at Virginia State University where she earned her M.S. and B.S. degrees, her 42 year career at the Naval Proving Ground in Dahlgren, Virginia, and how she is inspiring young people to follow their dreams and pursue careers in STEM.
