Sincerely, Hueman: Stories of Kindness and Doing Good
Society & Culture
Despite making up half of the total U.S. college educated workforce, only 1 in 4 STEM jobs in the U.S. are held by women. When it comes to minority women, these numbers go even lower. Black women make up only 2.5% of the science and engineering workforce, while Hispanic women represent 2.3% of science and engineering positions.
Anjali Chadha, whose family immigrated from India, was able to merge her interest and passion in STEM and racial inequality at an early age. With the help of her parents, Anjali founded Empowered, a nonprofit that trains minority high school girls in technological skills — all before stepping into highschool.
This episode takes us on Anjali’s journey as a young founder who saw the challenges faced by minority students and proactively used her gifts to make sure that they felt seen and had viable paths to successful STEM careers.
Kindness Quote from Anjali Chadha: I think as soon as I found a support system, I was able to really reevaluate my mindset and really understand that it's not enough to just be working on projects to help people who aren't in my personal life. It is equally important to be kind, supportive, and caring to those who are there for me.
