Jay Mijares’ lesson on Sunday was on “The Armor of God”, taken from Ephesians 6:10-17. This is a text where Paul is in a Roman prison. Even so, he is writing to the people of Ephesus about the power of faith, and wearing God’s armor (v11) “... that you may stand against the schemes of the devil.” It is God’s strength, not yours, that will make you strong from within.
Each piece of armor does its part. The belt of truth holds us firm, keeping us from becoming entangled with the devil. The breastplate of righteousness, works like a bulletproof vest, protecting our heart so we can focus on Jesus. Even our feet must be fitted with the gospel of peace, allowing us to march and bear witness.
The shield of faith protects our whole body against Satan’s flaming arrows. We may never be out of range of those arrows, but God's shield will protect us. Also take the helmet of salvation, which not only protects our head, but our mind, keeping our thoughts focused on God’s Word.
Jay left us with some thoughts to ponder. The Christian life is a battleground, not a playground. We must always be on the defensive, face our enemy, and expect to suffer hits. What is the condition of your armor today? If it needs dusting or polishing, take action now so you will be prepared for battle.
Remember always that God is greater than Satan, and when God is the source of our strength, then the battle is already won.
