The next time you pull money out of your wallet, read our famous national slogan: "In God We Trust." Have you ever wondered why we put this on our currency? The first time it appeared was in 1864, during the devastation of the Civil War-- the bloodiest war in our history. "In God We Trust" would later be decreed to put on our paper currency in 1956. At that time our nation again faced an existential threat --Godless, materialistic, Communism. The Cold War was in full blast. Human beings also now had Atomic bombs to use in battle. In the midst of the Civil War and the Cold War, when civilization itself hanged by a thread, our country felt the need to turn to a deeper source. It was not enough to rely on weapons, or political prowess, or technical savvy, but rather, it was "In God We (truly) Trust."
