The PLA Western Theatre Command (WTC) military exercises highlight their efforts at integrating information command between services, to enhance the capabilities of different operational and support units to achieve assault options. The PLA’s army aviation units are being increasingly used to conduct operations near the border areas. There is an increased emphasis on short and targeted operations by the WTC alongside defensive tactics such as air defence, early warning, and reconnaissance.
About the Speaker
Dr. M. S. Prathibha is an Associate Fellow at the East Asia Centre in MP- IDSA. She researches the Nuclear policy and strategy of China, China’s Elite Politics, military and strategic force modernization, and East Asian security dynamics. She won the China Government Scholarship to read Political Theory and Mandarin at the School of Marxism, Beijing Normal University. She is a Member of the Editorial Board of Strategic Analysis (Routledge). She received her doctorate for China’s Nuclear Policy and Strategic Conduct, in 1992-2008 at the Chinese Studies Division, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has a Master’s in International Studies and Bachelor's in Mathematics.
About the Chair
Commodore Venugopal Menon served in the Indian Navy for 30 years in various operational roles including commands at sea, training, and staff assignments at Naval Headquarters. He is a specialist in Anti Submarine Warfare and is an alumnus of Defense Services Staff College Wellington, College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai, and the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies, Honolulu, US. He writes in various forums on Maritime security issues. He is a distinguished member of the Chennai Centre for China Studies and a Non-resident senior fellow at the International Development Security Cooperation, Manila.
