Hey gang!
Here's a bit of a different type of interview for me, but I found it SO interesting AND incredibly worthwhile. While processing the episode's audio, it dawned on me (like a ton of bricks!) that MY own boy and girl fall inside the age range of the kids "Doors of Change" is working so hard to help! It's one thing to conduct an interview/conversation with the Founder and President of the organization, Mr. Jeffrey Sitcov, but to be able to go back and listen, as in this case, has REALLY touched me! Hits home.
As Jeffrey says, they don't offer "a hand-out, but a hand up." Such a great quote. I hope you'll consider offering a tax-deductible donation to this absolutely worthy cause. We did. Here are the links I promised, and if you're in or around San Diego on July 27th, go to the Concert for Hope and "Do a little dance, make a little love, and save a kid that night"!

Here’s a few names you just may recognize singing their praises!
"Doors of Change, keep up the good work that you do. My heart goes out to all of you and the youth that benefits from your efforts. Your use of art and music programs to reach and encourage homeless youth is inspired. You should be proud that your successful efforts in San Diego have been recognized and are being used in other cities across the country.”— America's Happiest TV Mom, Marion Ross (Happys Days / Brooklyn Bridge / Gilmore Girls and former San Diego Resident)
In the last year, the number of homeless youth has increased considerably. Today, more than ever before, the stress of being a teenager can be too overwhelming, too confusing and too many find themselves on our streets trying to survive. Doors of Change has discovered a unique way to connect with them, through music and art programs that have not only been saving lives, but taken our young from hopeless to hopeful. Offering more than food and shelter, they build self esteem and respect for themselves and others.— America's Most Off Beat Dysfuntional TV Mom, Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle / Pleasantville)
To be a teenager is hard enough. Hormones raging, identity crises, parents who know NOTHING, but to be a homeless teenager is a scar on all our hearts. Every child, every teen, is our responsibility. We must keep them safe and the earth solid beneath their feet, until they have found their place in this world.— America's most respected TV Mom, Michael Learned (The Waltons)
A shout out to Doors of Change. How wonderful it is to have an organization that offers a light in the dark to guide youth towards self-esteem and self-worth. Your approach to reinforcing positive attitudes and images towards ones self and others is exactly what our youth needs to face and replace the uncertainty and fear they may have of the future.— TV & Film Mom, Dee Wallace (The New Lassie / ET: The Extra-Terrestrial)
At an early age, my parents instilled in me the importance of arts to inspire and enhance our lives. I imagine that your use of art and music programs to connect with homeless youth is exactly why you have been so successful at reaching the thousands of our young who have become lost. May the rest of the country follow your lead, so that we can reach the millions still out there.— America's Most Established TV Mom, June Lockhart (Lassie / Lost In Space)
