Former Pastor John Pavlovitz On How Trump Took Over Christianity

John Pavlovitz (author, “A Bigger Table,” pastor, and Substack Writer, “The Beautiful Mess”) joins Chris Cuomo to examine how Donald Trump and MAGA have transformed conservative Christianity, why political identity has become so difficult to break, and whether Americans can still be persuaded out of increasingly extreme political camps. Pavlovitz argues that Christian nationalism has become a “Jesusless Christianity” built around power rather than the teachings of Jesus, and explains why he sees Trumpism as a cultic movement that has replaced traditional sources of moral authority with loyalty to one person.

Chris and John also debate whether the left has its own problem with ideological purity, the rise of the DSA as an alternative to the Democratic establishment, and why frustration with the status quo continues to fuel political disruption.
