In a recent article in The Atlantic, a black socialist academic recounts his misgivings with the woke atmosphere at Bates College, where he spent five years as a tenured professor before resigning in frustration.

His story is equal parts hilarious and enraging. It is also revealing. I review some of the highlights of the piece and discuss the political and cultural dynamics at play.

Does this article reveal that wokeness is in retreat? Just how anti-woke is this guy? Is there a “good left?”
