Should Christians Fast?

Christians throughout Scripture fasted before missionary journeys, fasted when appointing elders, fasted in seasons of repentance. Jesus himself assumed his disciples would do it. So why does this ancient, expected discipline feel like a strange, forgotten thing to modern believers?
