Fresh from the Hill: Inside Stories of Noteworthy Cornellians
Society & Culture
In this episode of Fresh from the Hill, you'll hear from Jordan Pares-Kane '18, a Resident Naturalist with the University of Georgia Costa Rica in the Monteverde region of Costa Rica.
Hear about Jordan's focus of study and how it relates to her work in sustainability today, how she decided to take a gap year after college to focus on travel and changing the world (and her advice to others who want to do the same), and her interest in disaster relief and how she contributed towards relief efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Also learn about how her involvement with Engaged Cornell afforded her a lot of the opportunities she received at Cornell and beyond.
“For a lot of my studies we would focus a lot on the environmental aspects of sustainability, and although that’s important, I think it’s really important to focus on social sustainability, because often it’s not focused on … it’s just something that was really emphasized during my program and just being able to see firsthand some of the disparities that different communities were facing because of environmental issues just really kind of inspired me to learn more about it.”
