This week, we take a step back to examine Phish’s November 23, 1985 show at Goddard College, with a specific focus on the 27-min Whipping Post. During this show, Mike Gordon had an epiphany & decided he wanted to pursue music for the rest of his life. The jam in question shares a lot in common with early jamming from The Grateful Dead. We explore Phish’s relationship to The Dead, and focus comparing the two band’s during their formative years as well as looking at where The Dead was when Phish was originating.
