Washington's anti-China sentiment has found new targets: Chinese cranes and smart cars. Everything sounds familiar: these products pose a national security threat to the US. Most recently, a few trade unions in the US asked the White House to open a trade probe into China’s practices in the shipbuilding and maritime logistics sectors. It is widely believed that the White House is unlikely to turn down that request due to domestic political reasons.
In a US election year, are we going to see more turbulence between the US and China over economic and trade issues? Host Ding Heng is joined by Professor Lü Yue, Dean of Academy of Global Innovation & Governance with University of International Business and Economics, and Senior Fellow of the Center for China and Globalization; Harry Targ, Emeritus Professor of Political Science and International Relations with Purdue University; Lee Pei May, Assistant Professor of Political Science with International Islamic University Malaysia.
