330. Does God Want You to Be Happy?

Does God want you to be happy? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach take on one of the most common desires in modern life: “I just want to be happy.” For many Christian men, happiness can become a false purpose—a life built around comfort, pleasure, emotional relief, and getting circumstances to finally feel right. But when happiness is pursued selfishly, it becomes a never-ending loop that leaves men more empty, more numb, and more disconnected from the purpose they were created for.

Nick and Garrett unpack the difference between temporary pleasure and lasting happiness. A drink, a distraction, an escape, a fantasy, or a moment of comfort may feel good for a short time, but that does not mean it produces life. Real happiness is tied to peace with God, trust in Jesus, obedience, emotional maturity, and the ability to zoom out beyond what feels good right now. The episode also reframes emotions as indicators, not masters. Feelings can reveal what you have been thinking, believing, and sowing, but they are not always telling you the truth.

This conversation is a call for men to stop living from the outside in and start living from the inside out. If you chase the flesh, your soul and spirit will dry up. But when you live spirit-led, rooted in faith, focused on Christ, and aligned with God’s design, your mind and body can follow. That is where real masculinity, purpose, peace, and lasting happiness are found. The happy life is not built by chasing every appetite. It is built by becoming the kind of man who lives close to God, manages his emotions, serves others, and finds joy in the life he was actually made to live.
