Last February 22nd, the presumed leader of the Jalisco Cartel New Generation, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho was killed in an operation led by the army, which resulted in a widespread burst of violence from the cartel that we’ve never seen before.
This was nothing new for Mexico’s criminal landscape. In 2010 something similar occurred with The Zetas after the arrest of one of its leaders, which resulted in several “narcobloqueos” in Monterrey.
