Where the true Gospel is not proclaimed, where the Scriptures are not accurately preached, there is no true church. False doctrine has a devastating effect, leading people away from the truth into myths lies. False doctrine can only produce a false unity and unbiblical love. Therefore, when Paul urged Timothy to stay in Ephesus to command certain person to stop teaching different doctrine, the aim of both his command to Timothy and Timothy commanding the false teachers to stop their false teaching, was love. Commanding the false teachers to stop was loving towards both the false teachers and any who was following their false teaching, for false doctrine eternally damns. But, Timothy's command would also promote the teaching of true doctrine, by contrast, and so would result in love for God and love for others. True doctrine effects the church and causes God's people to grow in love for Him and for one another.
