Ep. 17 - Pariss Athena, Ethical Business in a Performative Era

-Our guest in this episode is Pariss Athena, a founder of Black Tech Pipeline, a service that vets companies for their diversity, equity, and inclusivity policies and recruits Black technologists for their teams with the goal of both improving the companies and placing these potential employees in safe spaces 

-She shares her story about how multiple companies tried to bribe her to ignore her mission statement of making their companies more equitable and inclusive when recruiting Black technologists for their teams. They wanted access to her applicant pool, but they didn't want to be held accountable. 

-Pariss walks us through how she decides whether or not she should be working with a company that approaches her for her services

-We discuss how seeking out community on Twitter lead to a viral movement and the current iteration of her company

-She urges everyone listening to focus on being a part of the solution (vs. performative) when facing problems in the world and especially as it relates to the Black Lives Matter movement
