A long-time listener of Seeing Red, Sasha has spent years researching the brutal 1892 axe murders, the sensational trial that followed and the extraordinary mythology that's grown around Lizzie Borden for more than 130 years. That research became the inspiration for Bury the Hatchet – an award-winning bluegrass musical that blends true crime, courtroom drama and live folk music to ask one enduring question: did Lizzie Borden really kill her father and stepmother?

In this special episode, Bethan and Sasha explore the facts behind the legend, discuss why the Lizzie Borden case continues to fascinate more than a century later, and talk about the challenge of transforming one of history's greatest true crime mysteries into an acclaimed stage production.
