I survived what seems like a lifetime of abuse from childhood until the day I was finally able to completely, physically and emotionally, escape the toxicity and trauma that made up most of my life. I finally cut all ties with my parents in 2012. I held on to connections with a few family members that I thought were “not as toxic” until 2020, and that is when I publicly told my truth for the first time. Those few I had held on to turned on me in an instant, and that is when I knew; the family I had created was the family I had. As someone just learning who they are in their 40s, join me in this journey of learning, stories, art, sadness, joy, love, triumph, and hopefully some newfound friendships. With 2020 coming to an end and my awareness of self coming into its beginning, why don’t we grow into our true selves together?
