In this lively interview series from the RSA, Matthew Taylor, puts a range of practitioners on the spot - from scholars to business leaders, politicians to journalists - by asking for big ideas to help build effective bridges to our new future.
In our age of the internet and social media, the pandemic has revealed the importance of accurate science reporting. Fiona Fox, chief executive of the Science Media Centre, is an expert in science communication. She takes Matthew behind the scenes of some of the most contentious stories over the past two decades to chart the complex interplay between scientists and journalists - and warns of the damage to public understanding when scientists are silenced.
Fiona Fox became the founding director of the Science Media Centre, Britain’s independent press office for science, in 2001. In 2014, she was awarded an OBE for her services to science. She holds honorary fellowships at the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Society of Biology and the British Pharmacological Society, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Bristol. Her latest book is 'Beyond The Hype: The Inside Story of Science's biggest media controversies'.
