The holidays have a way of surfacing things we’ve learned to manage quietly — expectations, obligations, family dynamics, and the subtle pressure to show up in ways that don’t always honor where we actually are. A lot of us were raised on the idea that “no is a complete sentence,” but many of us learned very quickly that this only applied when our no didn’t inconvenience anyone else.
