Litany for Followers of the Transgressive One
One: When the time came for Mystery to be known, Creator became Creation, revealing G-d as WITH… Emmanuel! G-d is with us!
Many: The Living Word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood.
One: “If you have seen me, you have seen the One who sent me,” said Jesus of Nazareth.
Many: So, who is Jesus? And what does Jesus do?
One: Because Jesus is G-d, the Incarnate One does not consider equality with G-d something to grasp or cling to, but surrenders divinity in order to discover a way of symbiotic love with you, me, and all of creation.
Many: If Christ is willing to give up G-dness in pursuit of loving relationship, what might that invite of us… of me?
One: Jesus the Christ dined with the wrong people, embraced the unclean, flipped the tables of the powerful, welcomed the children, forgave his murderers, and called us friends.
Many: Is this what Shalomic life looks like? Could it be, that the Kin-dom of G-d welcomes all and everything? Could it be that Jesus’ new commandment “To love one another, as Jesus has loved us” fulfills all prior commandments?
One: For G-d did not send Christ into the world to condemn the work but to reconcile all and everything through Emmanuel.
Many: Teach us, O G-d, to welcome the widow, the orphan, and the stranger; guiding us to live justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with the G-d who is WITH. Cheers.
