This week we are checking in from the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona where we share stories of climbing, and river exploration in Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona. Then we’ll pivot and cover our theme of the week - how we outfitted our family for river expeditions.
A major part of our journey has been to learn which sports we can do together as a family of four with a two and five year old. We biked last year including some bikepacking trips, but found our bikes were just getting abused by dirt and sun on the back of the van - basically a liability. We left our surfboards behind this summer knowing we would unlikely see the Pacific for months and opted to take a gamble and find some form of river craft on our journey - opening up our options to explore some of the West’s great waterways in the form of multi-day expeditions. While we have experience on the water and overnight expedition experience as a family of four, river expeditions have been an entirely new sport for us. In this episode we cover our process, journey and philosophy to get into it.
ABOUT THE PODCAST
