Refusing to surrender

Contemplation of life and how much we want to participate in it happens to us all. We are often taught not to voice or express ourselves and forced to create personas that support the social status of acceptance. Then there is the aftermath of trauma, for which disconnection has become the only available way of being, whilst self-medicating soothes the pain. At night we nail our eyelids to the ceiling, attempting to avoid our fears chasing us into our dreams. It takes courage to refuse to surrender to a life unlived, especially at times when you find that you are standing alone, whilst the pillars of those you trusted crumble- replaced by random faces that soon become your closest fans. Someone special in my life once said to me that the only way of failing is not trying. I believe that we all should recognize that we have only been as strong as others expected us to be. I believe that once we dismiss these miss calculated lies about ourselves, and decide to take our lives into our own hands - that not only shall we discover our real, true capabilities, but also that we have strived and achieved much higher goals than that set by others before.
